Optus is Australia's leading integrated communications company - serving almost six million customers each day.  The company provides a broad range of communications services including mobile, national and long distance services, local telephony, business network services, Internet and satellite services and subscription television.

Since commencing operations in 1992, Optus has invested more than A$7 billion in the construction of fixed, mobile and satellite networks, including central business district and suburban local access networks.  These networks provide the company with an advanced technology platform capable of delivering integrated communications, information and entertainment services.

Optus became a 100 per cent owned subsidiary of SingTel on August 30, 2001 and listed on the Australian Stock Exchange on 10 September 2001.

SingTel Mobile, a wholly-owned subsidiary of SingTel, is a leading mobile operator in Singapore with more than 1.9 million customers who enjoy excellent indoor and outdoor coverage.

With the increasing use of mobile data services, it has placed its suite of retail data services and applications to both home and business users under the brand name of IDEAS. Wireless access to IDEAS can be made using SingTel’s Wireless Access Protocol (WAP) and General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) services.

Access to its mobile data services is also available via *Send, a service conceptualised and developed by SingTel Mobile, and which is believed to be the first of its kind in the world.  By dialling * followed by short numerical codes, customers can retrieve a whole host of information such as vehicular traffic updates and news and financial information.

SingTel Mobile also introduced Singapore’s first location-based service (LBS) using *Send in March 2001.  It allows customers to receive vicinity-specific information such as the location of nearby supermarkets or cinemas.  Among other things today, *Send LBS can be used to help customers book a taxi, find out which bus services are available nearby and receive weather forecasts.

With the commercial launch of SingTel’s 3G services in February 2005, its mobile customers can enjoy higher data speeds up to 384 kbps.  3G also enables customers to enjoy video calls and high-speed video streaming. 

Besides its Singapore operations, SingTel Mobile works closely with Optus (Australia) as well as its regional mobile associates - Advanced Info Services (Thailand), Bharti Group (India), Globe Telecom (Philippines), Pacific Bangladesh Telecom and Telkomsel (Indonesia) - in driving synergies across the group.

Launched in 1994, SingNet is the leading Internet Service Provider in Singapore and a wholly owned subsidiary of SingTel. As at 30 June 2007, it has 438,000 broadband lines and 49,000 dial-up customers.

SingNet caters to a wide customer base and offers a full range of Internet services with different usage plans to suit home and business users.  It was the first ISP in Singapore to launch a broadband service, providing customers with surfing speeds of up to 512Kbps using ADSL technology.  SingNet is also the first broadband ISP to introduce supplementary email accounts, child-friendly services and movie-on-demand (Movie Magix) to its users. With SingNet Wireless Surf, customers can now gain broadband wireless access on the move using their laptop and wireless LAN cards at more than 300 SingTel Wireless Surf Zones island-wide.
