SingNet Value Added Services - Global Roaming (Broadband/Dialup)

SingNet Global Roaming service allows you to surf the Net and retrieve emails when overseas, without needing to make costly IDD calls. Enjoy dial-up, broadband and wi-fi roaming with the latest software dialer.

Now you can enjoy easy internet access through wireless broadband ‘hotspots’ at selected hotels, airports, convention centers, and more.


This service is automatically enabled for all SingNet subscribers.

General Enquiry on Global Roaming Service

1.How can I register and subscribe to Global Roaming?
 All SingNet dial-up accounts are automatically enabled for global roaming service, and you can use it immediately when you are overseas.

2.What is the usage charges for SingNet's global roaming service?

3.What countries do the roaming network cover and what are the available access numbers?
 SingNet allows you to roam via roaming networks partner, iPass. It provides vast reach and coverage to over 160 countries and more than 8,000 locations, especially the major cities in the world. With the latest hotspot and broadband roaming service, you can expect increased convenience when overseas, with over 78,000 hotspots.

Visit iPass' website and click on 'Access Point Finder' to search for coverage in the area you will be traveling to.

Note: We have restricted access point usage in countries that tend to have higher level of unusual roaming activity. They are Belarus, Bulgaria, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Russia, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.

4. How do I configure and use global roaming while overseas?
 Its easy to start surfing overseas.

1. Prior to traveling, download the latest iPassConnect

The numbers for all the countries/cities and necessary settings are all pre-configured in the program.

2. Prior to using, you will need to set your username and password in the dialer. Once the dialer has successfully been installed, open the software and click on 'Options' > 'User Info'. Enter your username and password.

A few things to take note of:

- Login username MUST BE email address, ie userid@singnet.com.sg
-To send mail, change Outgoing Mail Server [SMTP] to  "mail.singnet.com.sg"
-To surf the net,
-for iPass connection -- disable proxy regardless of whichever local ISP user connected to.

5.What settings do I need to change in the email client in order to send emails?
 When you are connected via global roaming while overseas, you will need to configure your email client's Outgoing mail server (SMTP) to mail.singnet.com.sg. This is only necessary if you need to send mails.

Example : Outlook Express email client.

-Go to Tools => Accounts
-Click on Mail tab
-Look for the (default) SingNet account name under the Account column and click on it.
-Click on Properties button
-Click on Server
-Under the Outgoing Mail (SMTP) column type in "mail.singnet.com.sg"
-Click OK.

6.What settings do I need to change in the web browser to surf the Net?
 When you are using Global roaming service via the iPass POPs, you will need to set the proxy in the web browser, before you can surf the Net.

For iPass roaming
Disable the proxy in your web browser regardless of which POPs or ISPs you are connected to.

If you are using Internet Explorer 5,
Click on Tools -> Internet options -> connection. Highlight 'iPass' dialer in the Dial-up Setting

Click the setting button. Ensure that the 'Use a proxy server' option in 'Proxy server' is not ticked.

7.What should I do when I am prompted by the system "Username and password not valid"?
 

The possible causes could be due the following:

a) wrong password
b) wrong userid
c) account not enabled

For troubleshooting, please see below.

a) Wrong password:

You might have entered the wrong password that is case sensitive. Please clear away the existing password and re-type in the password to try again. If you have forgotten your password, you may call SingNet Technical Helpdesk to reset your roaming password. Please note that by calling our Helpdesk from overseas IDD charges will be incurred. These charges will be borne by the customers.

b) Wrong userid:

For iPassConnect - Login username MUST BE user-id only, ie userid

c) Account not enabled:

You might have disabled the roaming service setting. To enable/disable your roaming service, please go to the SingNet Homepage and follow the steps below:

1.Click on ‘My Account’ link.
2.Click on the respective user link.
3.Click on “Change your Global Roam Service Status”
4.Enter your User-Id and Dial-in Password in their respective entry boxes.
5.Tick the “Enable” radio button to enable Global roam service.
6.Click “Submit” button.

8. I'm not able to download my emails, what should I do?
 

The possible causes could be due the following:

a) wrong password
b) jammed mailboxes / mails with large file size or
c)wrong incoming mail setting

For troubleshooting, please see below.

a) Wrong password:

You might have entered the wrong password that is case sensitive. Please clear away the existing password and re-type in the password to try again. If you have forgotten your password, you may call SingNet Technical Helpdesk to reset your roaming password. Please note that by calling our Helpdesk from overseas IDD charges will be incurred. These charges will be borne by the customers.

b) Jammed Mailbox / Mails with large file size

You can go to SingNet My Communicator at http://webmail.singnet.com.sg to delete  your unwanted or read mails.

c) Wrong Incoming mail Setting

Check if you have configured the following:
Incoming Mail Server [POP3] to "pop.singnet.com.sg" &
Outgoing Mail Server [SMTP] to “mail.singnet.com.sg"
 

9.I'm not able to send emails. What should I do?
 Please check your outgoing mail setting, it should be configured in the Outgoing Mail Server [SMTP] to "mail.singnet.com.sg".  

10.How do I check my dialer version?
 
  • For iPassConnect
    Click HELP menu -> go to About iPassConnect

11.What are the supported wireless LAN cards?
 For iPassConnect use when overseas, please click here.

12.How do I get the latest access number in my phonebook?
 
  • For iPassConnect version 3.6

    There are two ways of updating the phonebook.

    To update automatically:
    From the iPassConnect menu bar, select Options > Settings.
    Select Automatically update phonebook and click OK.



    There are two options for updating your phonebook manually:

    If you prefer to update your phonebook manually,

    From the Connection Status Dialog (seen as you connect), click Info > Update Phonebook.

    Or


    If your phonebook is so out of date you cannot connect to the Internet with iPassConnect to perform a phonebook update, open Options > Update Phonebook. This method works only when you already have a connection to the Internet through some device other than your modem (i.e. via LAN access).


13.What is the minimum system requirement needed?

14.What is an SSID?
 Service Set Identifier. The SSID is also known as Network name, identifies a network. The SSID is used for the wireless device (notebook or PDA) to associate with the respective network.

15.What is the SSID for iPassConnect?
 Usually you only need to set your SSID to "ANY" unless you are prompted to change the SSID by the dialer.

16.How do I change the SSID setting?
 
  • You need to activate your client manager for your LAN card.
  • Set the SSID/Network name to "ANY".
    This setting should detect any available SSID at a hotspot automatically unless otherwise prompted by the dialer.
17.Do I need WEP to make a connection to the Broadband service?
 No. In order to make a connection, WEP must be disabled.

18.How do I disable it?
 
  • Activate your LAN card client manager.
  • Disable WEP or data security
19.Which number can I call if I encounter problems during roaming?
 If you have problem connecting to the Internet when you are overseas, please contact our SingNet Helpdesk Technical Support at (+65) 68486933 from 8am to 12 midnight daily or you can also write to us at http://home.singtel.com/customer_service/cust_serv_emailus.asp.
The necessary IDD charges to the hotline will be borne by the customer.

Global Roam Online Web Utility

1.How do I disable and enable the global roaming service of my SingNet account?
 If you need to use the roaming service, you can just enable it at SingNet's Global Roam Web Utility. However, it is highly recommended to keep the Global Roam Service disabled as it is a good measure to prevent any unauthorized roaming usage if you are not using the roaming service for a long period of time.

Please go to the SingNet Homepage and follow the steps below

1.Click on ‘My Account’ link
