| 1. | What is a domain name? |
| A domain name is a unique and personalized address that represents a given location (such as a web site and email address) on the Internet. E.g. the domain name for SingNet's homepage, www.singnet.com.sg, is "singnet" and the domain name category is "com.sg". Thus all SingNet's web sites begin with "singnet.com.sg".
|
| 2. | What is the PER.SG domain name category and how is this category different from the COM.SG and ORG.SG domain name category? |
| SGNIC has introduced the domain name category, PER.SG, on 1st May. It marks the first incidence when individuals are able to have their own personalised domain names ending with "per.sg".
In the past, organisations such as companies or societies, that are registered with the Registry of Companies and Businesses (RCB) or its equivalent are able to carry domain name categories such as com.sg, net.sg, org.sg, while government bodies and educational institutions carry the domain name categories, gov.sg and edu.sg respectively.
|
| 3. | Who can apply for a PER.SG domain name? |
| Application is open to all Singapore citizens and permanent residents who are 21 years and above. Personal Domain (PER.SG) is only for individuals who are using it for personal usage (not for companies). For those who are under 21 years old, they must key in their parent/guardian NRIC & Name to show that their parent/guardian have consented their application.
Note: SingNet will not be held responsible for verification of subscribers' age and parental/guardian consent.
SingNet will accept these applications and register the domain names with SGNIC. However, SingNet will treat Johnson as the main contact for these applications as his SingNet email account is used as the point of contact for all the above domain names.
|
| 4. | Do I pay SingNet or SGNIC for the PER.SG domain name registration? |
| You will pay to SingNet for the domain name registration (which is included in the Personal Domain Name Parking Service), and SingNet in turn pay SGNIC on your behalf.
|
| 5. | Where can I confirm if my domain is registered under my name? |
| You can visit http://www.nic.net.sg/ to check who is the owner of that particular personal domain name.
|
| 6. | How do I know which domain name is taken up? |
| You can check the availability of a domain name at SingNet's Online PER.SG Domain Name Application page. However, only domain names that have been approved by SGNIC will be reflected. Applications that are being processed by SGNIC at any point in time are not reflected at Singnet or at SGNIC site.
|
| 7. | Are capital letters allowed for domain registration? |
| Yes but domain names are not differentiated by capital and small letters. E.g. "myname.per.sg" and "MyName.per.sg" are considered the same domain name and therefore only one applicant will be able to register for this domain name.
|
| 8. | Are there any restrictions/policies for the registration of PER.SG Domain Name? |
| Yes. Besides having to commit to a 12-months subscription of the service, applicants will also need to comply with the following before SGNIC will process the application: - Applicant must be a Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident.
- Applicant must be at or above 21 years old. If not, consent from the applicant's parent/guardian must be sought.
- Personal Domain Names that imply relationship with official titles in the Singapore Government will NOT be approved. E.g. president.per.sg
- Application from a person trying to register another person's name as a PER.SG domain name will NOT be approved.
- Application that resembles Singapore Identity Card number format will NOT be approved.
- Application with obscene, swear words, or such word included as part of the PER.SG domain names will NOT be approved.
A list of common surnames and other government-related names are reserved by SGNIC for future use and therefore will not be available for application. To view this list, please visit http://www.sgnic.sg/pdf/rppg.pdf. Only domain names between 2 to 63 characters. Only alphanumeric and hyphens are accepted. Special characters eg. @, #, *, /, \ will not be accepted.
|
| 9. | When and how will I know if my Personal Domain Name application is successful? |
| Applications through SingNet will be submitted to SGNIC. SGNIC will take about 5 working days or less to process the applications.
In all, SingNet subscribers will receive two emails on their applications:
- The first email will be sent once SGNIC receives your application. - The second email will be sent when SGNIC notifies SingNet of the status of your application. This email will tell you if your application is successful. |
| 10. | If the domain name I wish to register for is taken, what should I do? |
| If the domain name you want is taken, it is no longer available unless the domain name is freed up through a termination of the particular domain name by the current registrant. Hence, you may wish to register for an alternative domain name that is not taken.
|
| 11. | If I have registered for the personal domain without any other Value Added Services (VAS) related to personal domain, how can I register for these VASes? |
| Subscribers who have successfully registered for your personal domain name through SingNet can visit here to register for related value-added services.
|
| 12. | Do I have to pay for the domain name if I terminate my personal domain name service before I complete my 12-months subscription? |
| Upon registering for your domain name through SingNet, you will need to make a one-time payment to SingNet for the administration and registration services. The domain parking fee will be paid to SGNIC, through SingNet, once your domain name is approved.
Therefore, if you should terminate your domain name before SGNIC has approved your domain name, the only cost you will have to incur is the one-time registration fee.
However, if you should terminate your domain name after SGNIC has approved your domain name, the cost you incur would be the $10.70 one-time registration fee and the $26.75 Domain Parking fee.
