Frequently Asked Questions on Full Mobile Number Portability

1.
What is Full Mobile Number Portability?
Full Mobile Number Portability is an enhanced mobile number portability solution that allows you to retain full use of your existing phone number, even when you switch service provider. As such, you will not have to go through the hassle of updating all your contacts on a new number from your new service provider.

Both pre-paid and post-paid mobile subscribers can make use of this solution to retain their original phone numbers.

2.
When will Full Mobile Number Portability be launched?
Full Mobile Number Portability will be launched on 13 June 2008.

3.
How is Full Mobile Number Portability different from the mobile number portability solution before 13 June 2008?
Before 13 June 2008, the mobile number portability scheme was based on a call-forwarding solution. Customers possessed two mobile numbers, i.e. (1) the original mobile number from M1/StarHub and (2) the new mobile number issued by SingTel Mobile.

A call made to their M1/StarHub number would be forwarded to the new SingTel Mobile number under the call-forwarding approach.

When making a call or sending an SMS, the SingTel Mobile number would be reflected on the recipient’s phone. Furthermore, they were not able to receive MMSes on their original M1/StarHub mobile number with the call-forwarding solution.

Full Mobile Number Portability eliminates these limitations, and also extends mobile number portability to both post-paid and pre-paid mobile subscribers.

4.
Who can enjoy Full Mobile Number Portability?
All mobile customers can make use of Full Mobile Number Portability.

Customers need to make sure that they do not terminate their mobile service or that their mobile line has not been suspended to enjoy Full Mobile Number Portability. Otherwise, they may not be able to regain the number that had been given up during the service suspension/termination.

5.
I am an existing M1/StarHub postpaid mobile customer, how do I port-in my mobile number to SingTel Mobile?
Simply visit your nearest hello!store or SingTel Exclusive Retailer Dealer to apply for Full Mobile Number Portability with the relevant identification documents.

Please do not terminate your mobile subscription with M1/StarHub. Instead, SingTel Mobile will apply the Full Mobile Number Portability service on your behalf. In most cases, the porting request will be activated on the next working day.

SingTel Mobile will also issue you a new SIM card and advise you on the date to start using it. Prior to this, you should use your existing M1/StarHub SIM card. If for some reasons that the porting request is unsuccessful, we will also contact you.

6.
How much is the charge to use the Full Mobile Number Portability solution?
Your request to port-in your M1/StarHub number to SingTel Mobile is free upon successful porting. We welcome you to join us to experience the superiority in our local and overseas coverage, as well as take advantage of our value-for-money price plans and innovative services.

7.
How long will it take to activate the ported number?
Typically, it will take one working day to activate the ported number. This means that you will be able to use your existing number on the SingTel Mobile network by the next working day from when your porting request was submitted.

For other types of VAS and content services that you have subscribed with third-party providers, we encourage you to check with them about their arrangements to support Full Mobile Number Portability.

8.
Will I experience any service disruption when I switch mobile service provider using Full Mobile Number Portability?
To switch your M1/Starhub Mobile number over to SingTel Mobile, this process typically includes de-activation and activation of your number in the old and new mobile operators’ networks. Depending on the volume of porting requests, the service disruption may typically take up to three hours.

This service disruption is necessary across all service providers and we endeavour to minimise service disruption when your mobile number is being switched to join SingTel Mobile, for example by carrying out this activity during the off-peak hours such as around midnight.

After porting-in to SingTel Mobile, your ability to receive international SMS/MMS may be dependent on the network configuration of the overseas network operator.

9.
What happens to all my existing Value Added Services (VAS) when I use Full Mobile Number Portability?
For customers who sign up a new subscription with SingTel Mobile, Value Added Services (VAS) such as wallpapers, ring-tones, information services and downloads that are provided by M1/StarHub will be terminated when you port-in to SingTel Mobile. This arrangement will be similar across all service providers.

For other types of VAS and content services that you have subscribed with third party providers, we encourage you to check with them about their arrangements to support Full Mobile Number Portability.

10.
How will I know that my Full Mobile Number Portability request has been successful?
You will receive an SMS notification on the actual day of your mobile number porting. Once you see that your M1/StarHub mobile service has been de-activated, please start using your new SingTel Mobile SIM card.
