SingTel’s Internet SMS Chat lets you chat online, real-time with friends and family with SingTel Mobile lines! At absolutely no cost, you can now send and receive SMS from your PC to a SingTel Mobile phone or device (up to 3 at a time) both locally and globally and the chat conversation can be viewed conveniently on your web browser!

Troubleshooting Guide
1.I can’t seem to login and received the message, “Please enable cookie support in your browser and try again.”
2.There is no chat window after I enter my friend’s SingTel Mobile number and click OK.
3.After entering my friend’s SingTel Mobile number and click OK, a chat window appears and I receive a message that says my session has expired.

1.What is Internet SMS?
Internet SMS Chat service allows local and global Internet users to send SMS online to all SingTel Mobile customers through the Internet SMS Chat portal. SingTel Mobile customers will be able to reply to these SMS and the chat conversation can be viewed on the web browser.

2.Do I have to register to send a SMS via the Internet SMS Chat Portal? If so, how do I register?
Yes. Registration is required in order to send SMS via Internet SMS Chat Portal. Registration is FREE. Click here to register.

3.Why do I have to register?
This is to allow SingTel Mobile to respond to request for service feedback and to prevent misuse of the service to protect SingTel Mobile customers.

4.Can I register if I am not a SingTel Mobile customer?
Anyone with a valid email account would be able to register to send SMS via Internet SMS Chat Portal.

5.Will my Internet SMS account expire?
If you have not logged in within 90 consecutive days, a reminder will be sent to your registered email account. Please log-in within 7 days after receiving the reminder email. Else, your account will be deleted and you will be required to re-register.

6.I forgot my password. What do I do?
You may reset your password by entering your email address and click on ‘Forgot Password’. A new password will be sent to your e-mail. Note that there is a limit of 5 password resets per day.

7.My password is not displayed properly in the email. Why is this so?
It may be due to the settings on your e-mail client. Your e-mail client must support HTML.

8.I did not receive an e-mail after successful registration. What happened?
It may be filtered by your e-mail client/service provider. Please check your filter settings and click on ‘Forgot Password’, or you may want to try registering with a different valid e-mail address.

9.It says that “This session has become invalid”. What happened?
It might be due to:
1) Your Session has timeout as you have not used the service for the past 30 minutes.
2) Another concurrent session has been initiated with the same email address and password.
3) Another user has tried to login with the same email address and password. It is advisable to change your password.

10.How do I block/unblock the service and are there any charges?
SingTel Mobile customers who wish to stop the receipt of messages from the Internet SMS Chat Portal can choose to block the message delivery. To block or unblock, key *1767 Send on your mobile phone. You would not be charged when you block or unblock. Currently, there is no limit to the number of times you can block and unblock.

11.What are the requirements needed to use the service?
You will require
- Windows XP (SP1 & 2), Windows 2000 (SP3)
- Internet Explorer Browser version 5.5 onwards, Firefox Browser version 1.x.
- pop-up blockers must be disabled.

12.There is no response when I clicked on Register or Login. Why is this so?
Your pop-up blocker may have been enabled. Please disable all your pop-up blockers in order to use the service.

2.Can I send an Internet SMS to a non-SingTel Mobile customer?
Only SingTel Mobile customers would be able to receive SMS from the Internet SMS Chat Portal. If you wish to send an Internet SMS to your friend who is not with SingTel Mobile, please logon to :)EAS SMS Station.

3.Can I use the Internet SMS Chat Portal to SMS an overseas recipient?
No. you will not be able to send Internet SMS to an overseas recipient. However, you can logon to :)EAS SMS Station to SMS your overseas friends via Global SMS.

4.Can I use the Internet SMS Chat Portal to SMS a SingTel Mobile customer who is travelling overseas?
The intended SingTel Mobile customers would be able to receive SMS overseas if he/she had subscribed for AutoRoam Service or Pay-As-U-Roam Service, depending on overseas mobile service provider’s support.

5.Is there a maximum number of Internet SMS I can send to a SingTel Mobile customer?
Each SingTel Mobile customer can only receive up to a maximum of 20 Internet SMS per day. If the SingTel Mobile recipient has received a maximum of 20 Internet SMS in a day, the subsequent Internet SMS will not be delivered to the recipient.

6.There is a pop-up window after I send an SMS from the website. What do I do?
This pop-up window is to facilitate a SMS chat session. If your SingTel Mobile recipient replies to your SMS, his/her replies would be displayed on this pop-up window. For more details, please refer to the user guide.

7.Can I send an Internet SMS to multiple mobile users?
Yes. There is no limit to the number of SingTel Mobile customers you can send to. However, you can only engage in up to 3 SMS chat sessions at any one time.

8.What is the maximum duration for each chat session?

Each SMS session will end automatically if there is no activity for 20 minutes. If the SingTel Mobile customer does not reply within 20 minutes, or when the sender does not send any messages within 20 minutes, the chat session will end automatically. No notification SMS will be sent to the SingTel Mobile customer unless he/she replies to the last SMS received.

9.Can I send Chinese characters from the Internet SMS Chat portal?
Yes, if your browser and operating system supports Chinese. However, only up to 60 Chinese characters are supported. If more than 60 Chinese characters are sent, the SMS will not be delivered to the mobile recipient.

10.Why is there a 150 character limitation on the messages?
Your nickname of up to 8 characters is actually included in the message sent (e.g. Nickname: message). Thus, the number of SMS characters sent will have to be limited to 150.

11.How do I end my SMS session?
You can choose to end your SMS session by clicking on the Close Window button on the chat screen.

12.If I end the SMS session, can I still receive any reply if my friend replies to my message?
No. You will not receive any reply from your friend after you have ended the SMS session. Your SingTel Mobile recipient would be notified that the SMS session had ceased should they attempt to reply.

13.I have replied my friend’s Internet SMS, but he/she did not receive any message from me although the session was still on. Why is this so?
It might be that the SMS you sent could not be recognized (eg. including a binary character or an attachment in your SMS)

Receiving an Internet SMS (SingTel Mobile customer)
1.Do I need to register to receive SMS via the Internet SMS Chat Portal?
All SingTel Mobile customers would automatically be able to receive SMS from the Internet SMS Chat Portal. No registration is required.

2.I have just received an Internet SMS on my mobile phone. Can I reply?
Yes. You can reply directly to the Internet SMS within 20 minutes of receiving the SMS. Your replies would be displayed on the sender’s computer screen.

You can receive a maximum of 20 free Internet SMS per day. There is no limitation for replies.

As long as the Internet SMS Chat session is still active, there is no limit to the number of SMS you can reply.

5.I see odd characters in my message. Why is this so?
This might be that the message the sender typed contained some special characters (eg. [, ], &, %) which may not be recognised by your mobile phone.

You would not be charged when you received SMS from the Internet SMS Chat Portal. However, there might be standard SMS roaming charges depending on the overseas network operator.

4.I am a SingTel Mobile customer. Would I be charged for replying to the Internet SMS received?
SMS sent are deductible from bundle. A charge of 5.35¢ (inclusive of GST) applies for each SMS (to one mobile recipient) sent beyond monthly bundled SMS.

For SingTel Mobile prepaid customers, a charge of 5.35¢ (inclusive of GST) applies for each SMS sent from the mobile phone.

Standard SMS roaming charges apply for SingTel Mobile customers. These charges are overseas network operator dependent.

Troubleshooting Guide
1.I can’t seem to login and received the message, “Please enable cookie support in your browser and try again.”
This might be that your browser has disabled cookie support. To resolve issue, make sure that cookies are enabled in our browser by following these steps:

For users using Internet Explorer 6 SP2,
a. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options
b. Click the Privacy tab, and then verify that the setting is not set to Block All Cookies, High or Medium High.
c. If the setting is set to any of the 3 settings above, cookie support is disabled for the application. To enable cookie support for the application, click Default if it is available or change the setting to Medium.
d. If the setting is already set to Medium, click on Advanced.
e. Verify that Override automatic cookie handling selection is unchecked. If it is checked, unchecked the selection.

For users using FireFox ver1.5,
a. On the Tools menu, click Options.
b. Click the Privacy icon and select the Cookies tab.
c. Verify that the Allow sites to set Cookies selection is checked. If it is unchecked, check the selection.
d. Click Exceptions and verify that the URL address for the application does not appear in the list of sites with a status Block. If it is, select the site and click Remove Site.

2.There is no chat window after I enter my friend’s SingTel Mobile number and click OK.
You can try the following:
i. Make sure that the inbuilt Pop-up Blocker is disabled in the browser:

For users using Internet Explorer SP2,
a. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
b. Click the Privacy tab and verify that the Pop-up Blocker selection is unchecked. If it is checked, unchecked the selection.

For users using FireFox ver1.5,
a. On the Tools menu, click Options.
b. Click the Content icon and verify that Block Popup Windows is unchecked. If it is checked, unchecked the selection.

ii. Verify that no external pop up blocker software is installed. If there are, please consult the relevant software documentation to enable pop ups.

iii. Make sure that JavaScript is enabled in the browser:

For users using Internet Explorer SP2,
a. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
b. Click the Security tab and select the zone where you are accessing the application from. For most users, the zone should be Internet.
c. Select Internet zone icon and verify that the security level for the zone is set to Default. If security level is set to Default, the Default Level button is greyed out and not available and the level is set at Medium.
d. If security level is not set at Default, click Default Level button to set the level back to Default.

For users using Firefox ver1.5,
a. On the Tools menu, click Options.
b. Click the Content icon and verify that Enable JavaScript is checked. If it is unchecked, check the selection.

iv. Make sure that your browser is in the list of supported browsers for the application:
a. IE 6 and above.
b. Firefox 1.x and above

v. Check your network connectivity to Internet to see if the web pages are loading very slowly. If it is, then it could be due to network congestion. Please try to access the web site again later. If the problem persists, please contact our helpdesk.

vi. Please ensure that you are submitting the request through our web page. If the problem persists, please contact our helpdesk and state your email address with the HTTP error code received, eg 400, 500 etc.

vii. Try again after 20 mins.

3.After entering my friend’s SingTel Mobile number and click OK, a chat window appears and I receive a message that says my session has expired.
This is only specific to FireFox browser. To resolve this issue, please uninstall or disable the
Tabbrowser Extensions by following these steps:

1. On the Tools menu, click Extensions.
2. Select the Tabbrowser Extensions and right click to show the menu.
3. Select Uninstall or Disable and close all the FireFox browser windows.
4. Open a new FireFox browser window and the Tabbrowser Extensions is disabled or uninstalled..
