Paging - Service Closure

With effect from 10 July 2008, SingTel has ceased its Paging services and the related Paging Value Added Services. We thank you for your support and understanding.

About SingTel Paging Service (STP) Closure:

1.
When is SingTel's paging service closing?
SingTel Paging (STP) will cease all paging services including all paging valued added services from 9 July 2008, 2359 hrs.

2.
Why does SingTel have to shutdown its paging system?
The demand for paging services has been on a steady decline as more people switch from pagers to mobile phones. To keep the service affordable, we have been taking steps to reduce overheads and other network costs without affecting our service quality. After a very careful review, we regret that we have to discontinue the paging service which is no longer commercially viable.

3.
Can I not terminate my paging service?
You can continue with your paging service till 09 July 2008. Thereafter, the paging service will no longer be available and an announcement service will be setup for a period of 1 month.

4.
Can I transfer my paging number to become a mobile number? If not, why?
You will not be able to transfer your pager number as a mobile number at this time. SingTel Paging will be returning all paging numbers back to IDA after the paging service closure.

5.
Can I transfer my Paging number to another paging operator?
There is no number portability between paging operators, as such you will not be able to transfer your Paging number to another paging operator.

6.
Can my pager operate on another paging operator's network?
Your pager will most likely be incompatible with other paging operator's network as they operate on a different paging frequency

7.
What happens if someone sends me a page after paging closure?
From 10 July 2008, all paging services and the paging VASes will cease. Between 10 July and 9 August 2008, those who make paging calls to our customers will hear the following announcement.
"This is a SingTel announcement service. The number you've just called is no longer in use. SingTel Paging service has been closed since 9 July 2008. Thank you."

8.
Does my pager have any trade-in value?
Your pager will not have any trade-in value in Hello! stores.

9.
Who are the affected customers?
All paging subscribers will be affected by the paging network shutdown.
Customers with voicemail and one-number services who may have setup a pager number as a default notification will have to make appropriate changes to their out dial profiles.

10.
Do I have any alternatives to the paging service?
We recommend customers to take up a SingTel Mobile subscription to stay connected.

11.
Can you extend the closure date by say another three or six months?
We will not be able to extend the closure.
SingTel Paging has sent a letter dated 26th July 2007 and on 15th April 2008 to notify customers of this closure in order provide ample time for customers to find alternatives to stay connected.

12.
I have been a loyal SingTel Paging customer for a number of years. How will SingTel compensate me?
The SingTel group values you as a long-term customer. As you have been a SingTel paging user over the years, we would be glad to continue serving you. The SingTel group offers a wide variety of services and packages, including mobile packages. Please feel free to visit us at www.singtel.com for more information.

13.
I am currently on a paging contract. If I terminate my contract now, will I be penalized?
We are pleased to inform you that if you choose to terminate your contract now, there will be no penalty charges imposed as a result of this closure.

14.
When will I receive my last bill?
If you have other SingTel services apart from the Paging service within the same bill, you will not receive your last bill. The following item will instead be reflected in your next bill.

 Disconnect of    $x.xx
Eg: Disconnect of Classic PageTalk             $x.xx

However, if you only subscribed SingTel Paging service with SingTel, you will only receive the final bill a week after the Paging Closure.

15.
I paid premium price for my golden paging number, how will I be compensated?
SingTel Paging is unable to help you retain your golden paging number as SingTel Paging will be returning all paging numbers to IDA after the paging service closure.

16.
I work in an environment (eg. hospitals, oil refineries) where mobile phones are not permitted. Is there an alternative to pagers if I need to stay contacted?
Hospitals and manufacturing plants have already chosen to migrate to mobile services after a detailed study. To date, these customers have not experienced any issues with using a mobile phone on their premises. In fact, SingTel mobile has helped these customers migrate to mobile and has offered other messaging platforms to complement the migration.
