What is Fixed Line SMS Service?
The service enables Fixed line phone users to send and receive SMS to other Fixed line phone users or mobile phone users. It also allows Mobile phone users to send SMS to Fixed line phone users.

2.Without SMS Phone, am I still able to receive / send SMS on / from my fixed line phone?
Mobile users can still send SMS to you. The text SMS will be converted to a voice message using text-to-speech technology and delivered to your fixed line phone. You are then able to send a voice reply to the mobile user. However you are not able to send SMS from your fixed line phone.

3.How to apply for Fixed Line SMS service?
There is no need to apply for the service. It is already activated for all SingTel fixed line users.

Fixed line SMS supports both English and Chinese text SMS.

For non Fixed Line SMS phone users
5.How does the service work for me?
Mobile phone user sends SMS to fixed line; just like sending to a mobile phone. The text SMS is converted as a voice message (‘Voice SMS’) and delivered to fixed line user as a voice message. There is an option for you to reply to the ‘Voice SMS’ via voice reply of up to 2 minutes. You may also choose not to reply to the ‘Voice SMS’ by not selecting this option.

6.What happen if there is no one to answer the ‘Voice SMS’ call?
The “Fixed Line SMS System” will attempt to deliver the message over 2 retries (after 3 minutes and 15 minutes from the first try). After which, the message is discarded, if you have no TeleMail Service.

7.What happen to the ‘Voice SMS’ call if I have TeleMail?
If the call is not answered, the ‘Voice SMS’ is deposited into the TeleMail after the first try. The same applies if your line is busy. You can then retrieve the voice message from TeleMail.

8.What happen if someone send me a Chinese text SMS?
The Chinese text SMS is converted as a Chinese voice message ('Voice SMS') and delivered to the fixed line user.

9.I have sent an SMS to a fixed line user. Will I be notified if the SMS failed to reach the fixed line user?
No, SMS sender will not be notified for failed SMS delivery.

10.I am a SingTel Mobile user and on roaming overseas. Am I able to send and receive SMS to / from fixed line user?
Yes. You can still send / receive SMS from / to fixed line user. This is the same as though you are in Singapore. For sending SMS from overseas, you need to prefix the recipient’s number with +65.

About the Voice Reply
11.How is the mobile SMS sender informed of the voice reply sent by the fixed line phone user?
The mobile phone sender is informed of the voice reply via an SMS notification sent to him. In the SMS notification, the access phone number 6477 7900 to access the voice reply is stated, together with a PIN assigned.

12.How does mobile user retrieves the voice reply?
He dials the access number stated in the SMS notification. With the PIN assigned, he is able to retrieve the voice reply.

13.After listening to the voice reply, can the mobile user reply to the fixed line again via the voice reply?
No. He can only reply to the voice reply by sending another SMS to the fixed line user.

14.Can I retrieve the voice reply even when I am overseas?
Yes. You need to make an overseas call to Singapore by dialing +65 6477-7900.

About TeleMail
15.How does Tele Mail complement SMS?
You need to sign up for TeleMail to enjoy the service. With TeleMail, the ‘Voice SMS’ will be deposited into your Tele Mail when you are unable to pick up the phone when it rings or when your line is busy.  If you do not have Tele Mail, the ‘Voice SMS’ will be lost after attempts to deliver the message failed.

16.What if I have no Tele Mail?
You will not be able to store your ‘Voice SMS’ if you do not pick up the call or if your line is busy. The Voice SMS will be discarded.

18.I am a SingTel Fixed Line user, can I send SMS to mobile users?
You can only send SMS to mobile users (SingTel Mobile, Starhub Mobile or M1) or other fixed line users if you have a Fixed Line SMS phone.

About the Charges
20.What are the charges for sending SMS to fixed line?
Mobile user pays the usual SMS charge to the Mobile Operator, as per current mobile SMS bundle. There is no additional charges for sending SMS to fixed line.

21.What is the charge for sending a voice reply to the mobile user who sends you the SMS?
Fixed line user pays 5.35 cents for each voice reply.

22.Is there a charge to user when he retrieves the voice reply?
There is no extra charge for retrieving the voice reply. Mobile user pays the usual air–time to his Mobile Operator to retrieve the voice reply while fixed line user pays the local call charge. For retrieval from overseas, the usual overseas call charge is applicable.

23.What SMS Phones are available? And how do I use it?
Various models of Fixed Line SMS phone are available at Hello shops and other phone shops in the market. With an Fixed Line SMS Phone, users can receive text SMS which is displayed on the screen. Users can then reply and compose new SMS text messages using the phone. The messages are then sent as a text SMS to other fixed line users or mobile users. Currently most of the phones in the market support only English SMS.

24.Why is Caller-ID service required for the SMS Phone?
Caller-ID is a compulsory requirement for the SMS Phone to function. The SMS Phone makes use of Caller-ID service to determine whether it is a normal voice call or an SMS call. Without Caller-ID service, the message will be delivered as a voice SMS, just like a normal fixed line phone.
