- First MHS provider with a pan-Asian footprint -
Singapore, 4 July 2001 – SingTel today rolled out EXPAN, its suite of managed hosting services (MHS), in key markets across Asia.
EXPAN will enable multinationals, application service providers and those in Internet-related businesses in Singapore and the region, to outsource their entire communications networks and web-hosting needs to SingTel.It will be available in SingTel’s Internet Data Centres (IDC) in the region.
The EXPAN suite of services include system administration and maintenance, security services, data administration, performance monitoring and fault management, problem resolution and technical support (see Annex).
SingTel has partnered technology leaders such as BMC Software, Cisco Systems, EMC, Hewlett-Packard, National Computer Systems, Oracle Corporation Singapore and Sun Microsystems, who will provide the equipment, software solutions and expertise to support the provision of these services.
SingTel will invest $500 million by 2002 to establish a network of Internet Data Centres in major cities throughout Asia. The first of these IDCs are located in Singapore, Osaka in Japan, Shatin in Hong Kong and Sydney in Australia.This will be followed by Taiwan and Korea and second IDCs in Japan (Tokyo), Hong Kong (Tsuenwan) and Australia (Sydney) by November this year. SingTel will also work with its associated companies to set up IDCs in the Philippines, Thailand and India by early 2002.There are also plans to set up data centres in China and Malaysia next year.
Experts have estimated that web-hosting revenues in Asia will grow by more than 46 per cent annually with the potential to reach US$1.8 billion in 2004.Most of this business will be dominated by the leading regional telcos as they own networks and have access to bandwidth.
“SingTel will leverage returns across its extensive telecom network by bundling web-hosting services with other telecom offerings,” said Mr Lim Chuan Poh, SingTel’s Executive Vice President (Corporate Business).“We don’t see ourselves just providing space but having the capabilities to allow companies with regional ambitions to outsource their entire network operations to us.”
