About The SingTel SMS Shootout 2008

The inaugural SingTel SMS Shootout held in 2004 gave the world a new Guinness World Record for "Fastest Time to Type a Text Message". The quest for a new record has just begun!

The SingTel SMS Shootout 2008 is open to all Singapore citizens and permanent residents. There is no age limit. Contestants can be users or subscribers of any mobile phone network in Singapore.

To participate, all you have to do is to sign up for the Selection Trials. Last day for registration is 21 February 2008. There is a registration fee of $4.00 (GST included). All proceeds collected from the registration fees will be donated to the SingTel Touching Lives Fund. Contestants are required to register online.

Once successfully registered, contestants will be informed of the confirmation of their participation in the Selection Trials via email.

At the Selection Trials, you will be given two attempts to type the following 160-character text on your mobile phone:

  
     
 
The razor-toothed piranhas of the genera Serrasalmus and Pygocentrus are the most ferocious freshwater fish in the world. In reality they seldom attack a human.
 
     
  (The contestant will need to beat the current record timing of 41.52 seconds which was set at the SingTel SMS Shootout 2006.)  
     
  Contestants are advised to practise as much as they can before the Selection Trials. The 50 contestants with the fastest time during the Selection Trials will qualify for the Semi-Finals. If there is an error in the message typed, that attempt will be invalidated. The use of predictive text mode and spelling aids is not allowed. PDA or mobile phones with built-in keyboards are not allowed for the Contest. The use of stylus or other typing aids is also not allowed.
